The characteristic of the alkaline dry battery

2022-02-22

Capacity of the alkaline dry battery
The capacity of alkaline battery is higher than that of carbon battery because manganese dioxide used as cathode has high purity and density, and the volume of internal parts is thin (such as electrode), which also makes room for increasing the capacity. In general, it is 3 to 5 times more than that of carbon battery. However, the capacity of alkaline battery will decrease with the increase of output current. For example, the same battery can have a capacity of 3000mAh at low output current, but when used in the load of 1A current, the capacity will only be 700mah, less than 1 / 4 of the original.

Voltage of the alkaline dry battery
The electromotive force (e.m.f) of a single alkaline battery, that is, the voltage without load is generally 1.5V, but the voltage will vary from 1.5V to 1.65v with different manganese dioxide and zinc oxide. When the load is connected, the voltage will drop with the increase of output current. Under normal load, the voltage will drop to about 1.1V to 1.3V.

Electric current of the alkaline dry battery
The output current of alkaline battery is larger than that of carbon battery, but smaller than that of ordinary battery. Alkaline batteries with larger capacity can output larger current because of the increase of electrode area and more substances can produce chemical reactions at the same time. Excessive current will heat up the battery during discharge. Generally, AA battery can output 700mA current without obvious temperature rise, while larger models of C and D batteries can withstand greater current without obvious temperature rise.
